Worlds Best View from a Laundromat – Exumas Sailing Report – Part 6

IMG_2718One of my goals shortly after college was to always live somewhere that I could have my own washer and dryer.  The whole laundromat process seemed depressing, and I was anxious to become laundry independent.  As we contemplate a future life of cruising, I am aware that it is very unlikely that any boat I purchase will have a built in washer and dryer.  I never really thought about this aspect of cruising life until we visited Black Point Settlement’s Rockside Laundromat.  Jen and Jon had been cruising for a few weeks without a laundry stop, so we stopped in to check out the facilities.  First of all, everything was immaculate, and the machines all looked fairly new.  I never visited a laundromat in the U.S. that was this clean.  The staff was friendly, and they had a nice shop attached to the laundry side.  Need a golf cart, haircut, hot shower, place to stay or even an order of tasty conch fritters while you do your laundry, they have you covered.  Take that dirty depressing U.S. laundromats.

But the best part was the view.  It was so great, I have officially given it the award for “The Worlds Best View from a Laundromat.”  It was such a great view that I was tempted to help the other cruisers fold laundry just to have an excuse to stay longer.  Brandy said she would post a picture of it above our home dryer if it would get me to fold something, but it is just not the same without the tropical breeze wafting through the window.  The laundromat also has a dinghy dock, and everything is more fun if you can pull up via the water.

Think your laundromat has a better view?  Send us a picture, and we will consider it for next year’s competition; but 2015 belongs to Rockside Laundromat, Black Point Settlement, Great Guana Cay, Exumas Bahamas.  Congratulations Rockside,  you make us want to do more laundry and eat tasty conch fritters at the same time.
