Intro News

  • We released new YouTube videos!  We have a video of how we have our boat setup form cruising showing the interior and exterior setup.   We also have the first video produced by Brandy!  She released a video of our trip cruising near Ft. Desoto / St. Petersburg, Florida and the Everglade Challenge sailing race where small sailboats and paddlers travel 300 miles down to the Florida Keys.
  • We are catching up on releasing podcasts.  Our goal is to release two a month, we have ten so far this year, so we are two behind but we plan to catch up over next couple months.
  • We have some great interviews coming up withthe Crew of Follow the Boat and another we a trailer sailor that did some extensive cruising before moving to an offshore cruising boat.
  • This weekend we are cruising the St. Johns River and anchoring in Silver Glen Springs.   Come out and join us if you are in the area.  You can drive to the county park and wade out to the boats.

Biscayne Bay cruising review

  • We originally planned to go to the Ft. Pierce and Stewart area, but the disgusting blue green algae bloom changed our plans.  The impact we have on ecosystems is very sad.
  • We decided to head further south and cruise around Biscayne Bay in Miami, a great cruising ground with beautiful water and great sailing.
  • We launched at Mattheson Hammock Park on the West side of Biscayne Bay, south of Miami.   Trailer parking is $15 a day.  It has 12 launching lanes and 150 parking spots.
  • We left the park Friday afternoon and had a great sail north to Coconut Grove.  We anchored next on the north side of the Dinner Key Mooring field behind a small island to block the wind, marked spot on map here.
  • Rowed a short distance into Grove Bay Grill and had a great Mahi sandwich and a few drinks while we listened to a great Reggae band.
  • Saturday morning we cruised over the No Name Harbor to meet up with Will and Cat from Monday Never.  We rafted up with Will and Cat, the harbor had plenty of room and it was very protected.
  • We had a late lunch at the Boaters Grill inside the harbor.   They serve fresh seafood and Cuban dishes and we all enjoyed our meals and the cold beer.
  • Sunday morning we left No Name Harbor and headed a little north to fill up on gas and ice at Crandon Marina.    On the way to the marina, we came across Nikki and Jason from Gone with the Wynns who are just starting their sailing adventure on their 43ft Leopard catamaran.
  • We headed back south into Biscayne Bay National Park.  Our first stop was to check out Stiltsville a group of houses that were built out in the middle of the bay.
  • We had a great sail down the bay to Elliott Key and anchored for the night.   Close to shore is a very hard coral bottom with little sand so the anchor would not grab, but our a couple hundred yards the anchor was very secure.
  • Monday morning we went out the cut at the north end of Elliott key and headed out to Bache Shoal to snorkel the reef.   There are five mooring balls and the snorkeling was great.  We even spotted a sea turtle!
  • We headed south along the coast to the next cut, Ceasar Creek Inlet.  Once we were back in the bay, we decided to head further south to the north side of Key Largo so we could visit a great bar / restaurant called Alabama Jacks

Product of the Week

solo

Solo 1 Litre Pressure Sprayer

We love this little sprayer for rinsing off after a swim in salt water.  Also great for a quick cool off on a hot summer day.
